Clip and Climb Nottingham
Brief: To Design and Coordinate the Construction of a Clip and Climb Themed Rock Climbing Centre into an existing portal frame structured commercial unit with Cafe, Party Room, raised Mezzanine Viewing Area and Introduction/Safety briefing Induction room.
The site is made up of a portal steel frame commercial unit with more than 35 parking bays. With fantastic connections Jnc 26 of the M1 and a ram stop less than 5 ins from the entrance doors the location was perfect for an out of city centre leisure attraction site.
Acres Architects were employed by Barbae Ltd. to complete a measured survey, Planning Application, Technical Design, Building Regulations Submission, Tendering and Contractor Negotiations and act as Contract Administrators under a Traditional procurement Method. There were many challenging intricacies in dealing with the existing building including, removal of part structure of an existing mezzanine, design of a new staircase and lift access, adjustments in lighting, ventilation and fire consultancy design. All were handled by Acres Architects.
The project required a fast pace turn around for completion for the start of holiday season allowing the owners to launch the company at the optimum time within the calendar year. This resulted in a negotiated procurement route with a contractor recommended by Acres Architects. Through Contract Administration duties Acres Architects were responsible for ensuring programme, costs and design continuation as well as coordinating with sub contractors.
The project was completed on time and within budget.
The fantastic resulting Clip and Climb centre has been enjoyed by many Acres Architects employees since it’s opening. We thoroughly enjoy ourselves every time the team take a trip down.
